Please support Maggie Miller’s Community Service Initiative by donating blood on Tuesday, May 12th 2:00-7:00 PM.

My Community Service Initiative, American Red Cross, is educating others on the awareness of giving life through blood donation. When I was nine years old, my pop was diagnosed with terminal cancer and needed a blood transfusion. He had to wait eight hours for the blood to be delivered to our local hospital. This is my why.

Please join me for another blood drive on Tuesday, May 12 at Grace Christian Academy in Bainbridge. Please sign up 2:00-7:00 PM.

First State Bank of Bainbridge will operate the drive-thru only from 10am to 2pm on Friday for our employees to attend the funeral service of our CEO, Mr. Billy Lanford.

Words cannot express how devastated we are over the sudden loss of our long time President & CEO, William D. Lanford (Billy).

Director Jimmy Loyless’ words could not have expressed it better:
“Billy’s dedication to doing the right thing was front and center throughout his life and career. He loved the community where he lived his entire life. He loved his family and often spoke proudly of the accomplishments of his grandchildren. He enjoyed gathering with friends to play music. He will be missed.”

Please keep his family, friends and the employees of First State Bank in your prayers as we grieve his loss.

Congratulations!!

We’re excited to share that GCA 4-H’ers distinguished themselves at Rock Eagle on February 21st – 23rd at the Southwest District Project Achievement competition. Junior/Senior Project Achievement is a challenging two-part competition, in which participants practice mastery in their field of interest through portfolio and presentation.

GCA students participating in the contest were:
Maggie Miller- 8th grade Beef – 1st place (not pictured)
Skye Clements – 8th grade Outdoor Recreation – 1st place
Madelyn Cohen – 8th grade Fruits, Nuts, Vegetables– 1st place
Scott Ross Hayes– Senior AgriScience – 1st place
Margaret Chastain – Senior Communications – 1st place
Henry Lee – Senior Health – 3rd place
Bennett Earnest – Senior General Recreation – 3rd place

The 4-H Portfolio is an extensive written record that encompasses a complete calendar year of involvement, leadership, and service in a selected project area. This report includes a person background paragraph, a two-page information sheet highlighting their work and activities, and a page list of supporting material, including photos and other related information. The portfolio composes 40% of the student’s total score in the competition.
