Comprehensive Hurricane Milton Preparation – Let’s Keep Hollywood Safe!
Hello neighbors, friendsand Florida communities
With Hurricane Milton potentially affecting our area, it's time to take action and ensure we’re all as prepared as possible. Here are some key things to consider for both single-family homeowners and condo owners:
For Single-Family Homes:
Windows & Doors: Secure all locks, close storm shutters, or board up windows if necessary.
Outdoor Items: Bring in any plants, outdoor furniture, grills, or decorative items that could become dangerous in high winds.
Gutters & Drains: Clear out gutters and downspouts to prevent water backup and flooding.
Swimming Pools: Drain some water from your pool to prevent overflow, but not too much—your pool can help absorb rainwater.
Garage Doors: Reinforce your garage door if needed. These are vulnerable to high winds.
Alarms & Security Systems: Ensure your alarm systems are active and backed up in case of power outages.
Pets: Make sure your pets are safely indoors. Have extra food, water, and any medications they might need on hand.
Emergency Water Supply: Fill bathtubs with water for flushing toilets and washing if water lines are compromised. Have plenty of bottled water ready for drinking.
Backup Power: Test your generators or backup power sources and have fuel available. Make sure they are in a well-ventilated area if you use them.
Medication: Ensure you have enough medication for at least a week. Don’t forget to gather any special medical supplies or equipment you or a family member may need.
For Condo Owners:
Shutters: If you have accordion shutters, locate all keys and check the locks. If needed, apply WD-40 for smooth operation.
Balcony/Outdoor Space: Bring in all furniture, plants, and any loose items from your balcony or outdoor space to prevent them from flying away.
Windows: Check that windows are tightly closed and locked.
Elevators: Be aware that elevators may be shut down during a storm—plan accordingly if you're in a high-rise building.
General Tips for Everyone:
Emergency Kits: Make sure you have an emergency kit with flashlights, batteries, first aid supplies, medications, and other essentials.
Important Documents: Keep essential documents (passports, insurance, deeds) in a waterproof container.
Phone Charging: Fully charge your phones and have portable chargers or power banks available.
Evacuation Plans: Know your local evacuation routes, and have a plan in place if you need to leave your home.
Neighbors: Check in with elderly neighbors or anyone who may need extra help preparing.
Let’s all take these steps now to minimize damage and keep each other safe. If you need any assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re all in this together!
