Scammers use many different stories, but the warning signs are often the same.
They may claim to be from a financial institution, fraud department, or government agency.
Watch for:
• Pressure to act immediately
• Threats of arrest or seizure
• Instructions to withdraw or transfer money
• Requests to mail cash or purchase gift cards
• Requests for verification codes or sign-in information

If you receive a call like this, stop. Hang up and verify the situation using a trusted phone number—not one provided by the caller.

Texas Tax-Free Weekend is August 7–9. Most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced under $100 per item can be purchased tax-free.
