The vcfo team was glad to be at Leadership Austin's Courageous Leaders Lunch last week. Leadership Austin has spent more than 40 years doing something genuinely difficult: bringing together people from different sectors, backgrounds, and experiences and turning that into stronger civic and business leadership for this city.

That kind of work does not happen by accident. It takes an organization with a clear sense of purpose and the patience to build something that compounds over time.

We are proud to support and show up for organizations like this one. If you are looking for a meaningful way to plug into Austin's leadership community, the application deadline for the 2027 cohort of Leadership Austin groups is June 15th: https://na2.hubs.ly/H05CpCl0

Brandon Green joined a group of business owners and advisors at TEI's North Texas Focused Breakfast in Dallas for a conversation around one question: what does a good exit actually look like, and are you building toward one?

The session focused on owning the decision before someone else makes it for you. Too many owners arrive at that moment through burnout, a health scare, or a partner dispute and find themselves negotiating from the wrong side of the table.

The financial story a buyer sees three years from now is being written today, in how clean your books are, how much revenue walks out the door with you, and how much of the business runs without you in every conversation.

Thank you to Robert Rodenbaugh and the TEI team for hosting and for bringing North Texas owners together around topics that actually move the needle.

Great representation from our team at the Austin Young Chamber's 9th Annual LEAD Summit last week. The LEAD Summit is Central Texas's annual leadership development conference, drawing students, young professionals, and business leaders together for a full day of keynotes, panels, and workshops at UT's Commons Conference Center.

Jess Pass moderated a panel called "Orienting Your Professional Compass," leading an honest conversation about what it actually looks like to navigate a career — the decisions, the transitions, and the moments that define a professional path.

Growth doesn't fail because the market wasn't ready. It fails because the business wasn't.

Dustin Williamson, Managing Director at vcfo Houston, identifies the four structural gates every growing company needs to pass before pushing the accelerator and what happens when leaders skip them.

The four gates:

→ Cash Visibility: you can't confidently grow what you can't clearly see

→ Signal Speed: if your financial close is slow, your decisions are too

→ Decision Architecture: speed without structure is just chaos with momentum

→ Leadership Altitude: where your time actually goes determines everything below it

The diagnostic questions in this article are worth sitting with honestly. Most leadership teams will find at least one gate that needs work and that's exactly the right place to start.

This past week, the vcfo team attended the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2026 Gulf South finalist reception as a sponsor. This year's class of finalists spans robotics, aerospace, energy, hospitality, and software. 29 entrepreneurs from across the Gulf South recognized for what they've built.

One highlight of the evening was meeting Carolina Munoz, a high school student and Junior Achievement of Central Texas participant who has already founded three of her own business and was there networking alongside the finalists. Seeing that at her age is impressive and we are cheering her on as she continues her journey.

Congratulations to all of this year's Gulf South finalists: https://na2.hubs.ly/H05rN0b0

Most founders don't stall because of the market. They stall because they never stopped being the person who had to approve everything.

Dustin Williamson, Managing Director at vcfo Houston, has seen this pattern in hundreds of growing companies. His latest article breaks down the CEO bottleneck and what it actually takes to get out of it.

Three shifts matter most:
→ Stop approving every decision. Build the guardrails instead.
→ Align your team to where the company is going, not where it's been.
→ Change what gets rewarded — praising initiative matters more than praising deference.

As Dustin puts it: "Scaling doesn't break because of growth — it breaks when leadership doesn't evolve fast enough to support it."

If two or more of these feel familiar - decisions queuing up, constant escalation, reworking your team's output - our team would be happy to support.
