Drivers headed to downtown Manhattan will face a new toll beginning in spring 2024. The final fee, which is still up for debate, is expected to be between $9 and $23 dollars per day for passenger vehicles.

More than 80% of U.S. adults own a smartphone. These devices, along with other information and communication technologies (ICTs), gather mobility and travel behavior data on a continual basis.

Researchers at the University of Texas Center for Transportation Research recently analyzed how and if ICT-based travel data collection can further aid TxDOT in the capture of human and traffic mobility patterns more efficiently and effectively than traditional travel data collection programs alone.

The objective of the project was to determine if TxDOT can better harness these new data collection capabilities to continue to maintain a good level of service throughout the state transportation system.
