The Texas Syndication Network (TSN) launched in 2025 to help strong startups get in front of more investors through a more connected process — sharing due diligence, increasing visibility, and helping founders access more capital without rebuilding momentum from scratch.

Companies that are invited to present at the TSN gain exposure to 12 angel networks across the state. If selected, the companies may also be nominated for the national Angel Capital Association syndication platform, which puts their deal in front of more than 300 angel groups nationwide.

Some stats from the TSN's first year:
• $1M+ in follow-on investment into CTAN portfolio companies
• $14M+ collectively invested into early-stage startups by participating groups
• More founder exposure across multiple investor networks

This is what modern angel investing looks like: collaborative, efficient, and ecosystem-driven.

Thank you to the groups helping make it happen alongside us: SWAN Impact Network, New Mexico Angels, Inc., North Texas Angel Network, Baylor Angel Network, South Coast Angel Fund, Cowtown Angels, Rio Grande Valley Angel Network, Aggie Angel Network, Alamo Angels, Houston Angel Network, Lubbock Angel Network, Keiretsu Forum, Park Cities Angel Network

Syndication is becoming one of the most important forces in early-stage investing.

In 2025, CTAN collaborated with angel groups across Texas and beyond to help bring more than $1.2M of additional syndicated capital into CTAN-led portfolio companies.

Why does that matter? Because founders benefit when investors collaborate:
• More efficient fundraising
• Larger rounds
• Shared due diligence
• Broader investor networks
• More long-term strategic support

We’re grateful to work alongside groups including Houston Angel Network, North Texas Angel Network, Pasadena Angels, Serra Ventures, LLC, Sierra Angels, Aggie Angel Network, Cowtown Angels, New Mexico Angels, Inc., and many others helping strengthen the early-stage ecosystem.

The strongest startup ecosystems are built through connected investors willing to work together.

Founders looking to raise capital can apply to pitch at our upcoming funding cycle in August and accredited investors interested in becoming part of one of the most active angel networks in the country can learn more at www.ctan.com.

Gary Forni, the head of the Central Texas Angel Network, was asked to speak at the ATX Investor Salon this week with an impressive group of investors, family offices, founders, and fund managers focused on the future of innovation and capital formation.

One of the themes he discussed was the important role angel investors play as the first experienced capital into emerging companies, often helping founders bridge the gap between early traction and the larger VC and PE firms that come later.

Great conversations, strong companies, and a reminder of how quickly the Central Texas innovation ecosystem continues to grow.

The first 20 years of CTAN were about building the foundation.

Creating a disciplined investment process. Building a network of engaged investors. Funding early-stage founders. Helping grow an ecosystem that didn’t exist in Austin at this scale when CTAN started.

The next chapter is about expanding that impact.

More syndication.
More investor education.
More collaboration across Texas and beyond.
More capital moving into early-stage companies.

We’re building something designed to compound over time and we’re looking for more people who want to help shape what early-stage investing looks like in Texas over the next decade.

Come be part of it. Reach out to our team to get connected.

CTAN members and the CTAN Sidecar Fund are investing $150K into SunRay Scientific, a company developing advanced conductive adhesives for flexible wearables and semiconductor electronics.

SunRay’s technology is designed to replace traditional solder, wire bonds, and conductive films with a solution that enables smaller, lighter, and more flexible electronics while also improving manufacturing efficiency and sustainability.

The funding will support continued commercialization efforts as the company works with major manufacturers across medical devices, automotive, RFID, and semiconductor applications.

Today, we had the opportunity to present “Getting Started in Angel Investing” to the team at HiBob.

Using HiBob’s own fundraising journey as a backdrop, we discussed:
• How to get started building a thoughtful angel investment strategy
• Why accredited investor rules exist and the realities of early-stage investing
• The risks, timelines, and return dynamics behind venture investing
• What types of companies angels typically back — and how startup exits work

One of the biggest takeaways: successful angel investing is rarely about chasing one company. It’s about education, diversification, disciplined due diligence, and consistent exposure to quality deal flow.

Thank you to Emily Davila for organizing the session and to the HiBob team for the thoughtful discussion and engagement.

Gary Forni and Katie Russel presented, representing CTAN.

Every year, CTAN member Rick Timmins spends hours putting together CTAN's portfolio financial metrics and then presents that data to our members.

What’s working, where capital is flowing, how the portfolio is performing, and what nearly 20 years of angel investing activity looks like over time.

CTAN continues to be one of the most active angel groups in the country.

If you’re an accredited investor looking to build your angel portfolio and invest alongside experienced angels, we want you as part of the CTAN network.

CTAN's metrics Lunch & Learn is one of the most data-heavy sessions we do all year.

CTAN member Rick Timmins walked through nearly 20 years of portfolio metrics across 233 companies funded by CTAN members since 2006, including investment activity, exits, follow-on rounds, failures, valuation trends, and long-term returns.

Some of the biggest takeaways from the 2025 update:
• CTAN members invested $8M in 2025, up 54% year over year
• Active check writers increased 40%
• CTAN has now invested $142.4M into 233 companies
• Current portfolio value is approximately $605M
• Follow-on investments continue to significantly outperform one-time investments over time

The session also covered something that makes these metrics presentations valuable every year: the full picture. Not just exits and high performers, but also the companies that went out of business, the reasons behind failures, and the patterns CTAN has tracked over time across the portfolio.

Huge thank you to Rick Timmins for the work that goes into compiling this data each year for the network!
