I have been in the mortgage industry through one of the craziest times and have seen Forbearance come up A TON. It’s so important to really understand what it actually means.

Let’s say you have a mortgage payment of $2500. 💰

You get laid off, you call your mortgage company and ask for help.

They say, “No problem! We will give you 6 months without a payment.”

6 months later, you go back to work and still don’t have money to pay your mortgage.

The Forbearance plan is over and your mortgage company wants $17,500 ($2500 X 6 + $2500)!

😱 WHAT? How do I pay that?! You call the mortgage company and ask for help again. They say, “No problem! We will spread that out over 12 months.” Wait, I have to pay more a month!? How am I supposed to do that? Can I refinance? “No, sorry…you have to have made at least 3 payments and be out of Forbearance before you can do that.”

It’s important to understand that this is not FREE money. They are not letting you off from paying that amount back. I have seen A LOT of people think they will be find and have a balloon payment at the end (the large payment due) and there isn’t an option to roll it in or spread it out. This is where knowledge is KEY! 🔑
