Your emergency kit is ready. Is your emergency fund?

Here are five ways to become more financially prepared for the unexpected:
1. Build an emergency fund, even if you can only contribute a small amount at a time.
2. Keep copies of important financial, medical, and identification documents in a secure place.
3. Know how much you need each month for essentials such as housing, food, utilities, and transportation.
4. Review your insurance coverage and financial plan to make sure they still meet your needs.
5. Manage high-interest credit card debt. Reducing debt now can free up more room in your budget for future emergencies.

If credit card debt is making it harder to prepare for the unexpected, we can help you explore your options.

You made your credit card payment. Then interest was added, and the balance barely moved.

If that cycle feels familiar, one step could be reviewing your debt with a certified credit counselor. They can help you understand where you stand and whether a debt management program may be an option. Through a debt management program, creditors may lower the interest rates on enrolled accounts, allowing more of your payment to go toward your balance.
