Would you rather identify a workplace safety issue during a voluntary consultation or after an accident or OSHA inspection?
The New York State Department of Labor offers a FREE AND CONFIDENTIAL On-Site Consultation Program for eligible small and medium-sized employers engaged in high-hazard industries or activities.
Most importantly, this is a consultation, NOT an enforcement inspection. The program is separate from OSHA enforcement, and consultants do not issue citations or fines when they identify a safety or health violation. Instead, employers receive guidance and an opportunity to correct identified hazards. Employers must agree to correct serious hazards within established timeframes. A referral to enforcement may occur if a serious hazard is not corrected as agreed or employees are not protected from an imminent danger.
The consultation can help employers:
• Identify potential workplace hazards
• Review OSHA-required programs and injury records
• Evaluate safety policies and workplace practices
• Assess exposure to noise, air contaminants, and other hazards
• Determine where additional safety training may be needed
A strong safety program is more than a policy sitting in a binder. This program gives eligible employers an opportunity to find and address concerns before they lead to an injury, complaint, inspection, or costly violation.
