A lot of people come to me with their credit scores from KreditKarma, which uses the Vantage Score (I call the FAKO score). What is the Vantage score you ask? It’s an alternative score model the credit bureaus developed and own to eliminate using FICO (Fair Issac Company) in credit reports.

That is why a credit score is often referred to as a FICO score. When a vantage score is used, they don’t pay FICO. Vantage scores use a different scoring algorithm and scale.

A 700 score on the FICO is approx. 370 points off the low score. On the Vantage it’s 200 Points off the bottom. A 700 Vantage score is = to a 530 FICO score in direct points from the floor (There is more to it than this).

So why aren’t Vantage scores used for Mortgage Credit reports? The main reason Government regulators haven’t agreed to fully adopt it yet, It’s probably going to be. And obviously there is no Monopoly or other concerns with it…
