Our Story

Born and raised in Worcester, Bill Murphy, class of 1993, received his undergraduate degree in Psychology from Worcester State University and his graduate degree from Framingham State University. He graduated from Worcester’s North High School in 1989.

Bill has been in the mortgage industry since 1998. As a Certified Mortgage Planning Specialist™, Bill continues to attend workshops and seminars on the mortgage industry to stay abreast of new trends and products. He also teaches monthly Residential Mortgage Loan and Credit Today classes at the Worcester Regional Association of Realtors. Bill was named Affiliate of the Year for RACM in 2007 and again in 2017. In 2007 Bill was Chair and in 2008 he received the Most Prestigious Award for “GIVERS GAIN” in the State of Massachusetts.

In November of 2007, Bill opened his own branch with Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation. Since joining Fairway, Bill has consistently been among the top 5 producing branch managers. He was among the country’s top 200 producers in the Scotsman Guide in 2009 and 2010 and was in the top 1% in the country by Mortgage Executive Magazine for the past 6 years, from 2012 to 2018. Bill found the mortgage business to be tremendously satisfying because he was counseling people about the most important decision of their lives – buying a home. He was honored as one of Worcester Business Journal’s "40 under 40" in September 2006 for his commitment to the community where he lives and works.

Bill was named top loan originator in Central Massachusetts by "Bankers & Tradesman" for the last six years. In 2017 Bill was honored with the Daryll E. Jacobson award for courage in business.

Bill is a member of the Better Business Bureau, the Worcester Area Chamber of Commerce, and an Affiliate Member of the Worcester Board of Realtors. He is also a founding member and former president of his Business Networking International (BNI) Auburn Chapter where he is a consistent top giver of business referrals.

Bill received the "The Young Distinguished Alumnus Award" from Worcester State University in May 2007, and the "William Murphy Scholarship Fund" was started by Bill in 2008. This scholarship fund gives a $1000 scholarship to 2 Worcester City High School students every year for five years who are graduates of Worcester’s North High School and are planning on attending Worcester State University as a commuter student. Bill understands the financial hardships that many students face while attending college full time and working. He hopes that this scholarship will give students the financial flexibility to join a sports team or become involved in a student club. “Giving back to Worcester State University is important to me. I can’t forget my roots. I feel privileged to be successful and I want to do something remarkable with my success,” he said. Bill has also presented to business students, met individually with students about internships and job interviews, and participated in mentoring events sponsored by the Alumni office and Career Services.

Bill believes in giving back to his community. He sponsors Make-A-Wish®, where he gives a portion of his proceeds to making wishes come true. By the end of 2019, Bill will surpass $200,000 raised since 2006, and granted over 23 wishes on behalf of Make-A-Wish®. Bill has also held annual client appreciation nights at the DCU Center in support of Make-A-Wish® and the children of ‘Why Me.’ in 2016 he partnered with Make a Wish® again for the First Annual Fairway Mortgage "Walk, Run, & Roll for Wishes." In 2018 Bill sponsored a child for Make a Wish and had a “Send - Off Party” with balloons, and cake and luggage filled with gifts for her Disney Cruise! In 2019, Bill participated in the Boston Marathon on the Make-A-Wish® team. He had a goal of raising $12,500.00 and he succeeded. Bill successfully completed Ironman in Panama City beach, FL with an astonishing time of 13 hours and 53 minutes in November, 2019.

He has supported the Dana Farber® Organization as a member of the Dana Farber® Marathon Challenge Team. Bill ran this marathon in 2008, 2009, and 2011 where he raised over $15,000 for charity. In addition, Bill donates a portion of proceeds to the “American Warrior Initiative” through Fairway, a program for Veterans which helps support our wounded warriors. He supports “Fairway Cares,” the charitable arm of Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation. This program supports individuals and families battling critical illness and loss.

Bill is a great sports enthusiast and has played football in the Worcester Parks League. Recently, Bill received his black belt in karate demonstrating his diverse interests as an athlete. He coaches his children's sports teams and is a past president for the Charlton Little League. For the past 14 years Bill has shared his love of sports with his clients by holding annual Red Sox and Patriot ticket-giveaways, as well as sponsoring different sports events for his clients. He is a proud sponsor of many youth sports in surrounding towns and communities.
