Our Atlanta branch had two great reasons to celebrate this past week:

On Friday, we celebrated our Two Year Anniversary in Atlanta's West End! We are so grateful for two amazing years of serving Georgia, and growing to over 1,350 local members!

Yesterday we also celebrated the birthday of our Atlanta Regional Manager, Taylor Drakeford. Happy birthday, Taylor, and thank you for your tremendous leadership of our Atlanta team!

Earlier this week, our Atlanta Regional Manager, Taylor Drakeford, was excited to participate in the Accelerating Climate Resiliency and Renewable Energy (ACRRE) Convention, joining the “Powering Capital” panel alongside representatives from Freedmen Green Bank & Trust and Capital Impact Partners. The conversation highlighted the important role financial institutions and community development partners can play in advancing climate resilience and renewable energy solutions.

At Self-Help, we’re committed to putting capital to work for a more sustainable and equitable future. Through our climate capital work, we’re helping expand access to financing for energy efficiency, renewable energy, and climate-resilient investments—while supporting communities and households that are often most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. We’re grateful for opportunities like ACRRE to connect with partners and explore how we can help power a more resilient future. 🌱⚡

Our Atlanta Regional Manager, Taylor Drakeford, was honored to lead a financial workshop on Monday for the Southern Center for Human Rights's annual Reentry Retreat & Conference, designed to support former clients and justice-impacted individuals from across the South as they build successful, purposeful lives after incarceration.

The program reflects SCHR's commitment to assisting clients well after they are freed from incarceration - a commitment in line with Self-Help's own mission of creating and protecting economic opportunity for all.

We look forward to continuing to work alongside partners like SCHR to build financial stability, expand access to opportunity, and support people as they build brighter futures for themselves and their families.

Earlier this month we were excited to participate in English Avenue Neighborhood Association's National Night Out! 🧡💙

National Night Out exists to connect residents with the resources and people who serve them, and to break down the barriers that too often exist between the two. English Avenue neighbors were able to meet face-to-face with public safety officials and community organizations, ask questions, and walk away with real resources and real relationships/

We were excited to participate in last night's launch of the Invest for Better Atlanta Hub at Remerge, alongside an inspiring group of women committed to using their money as a force for good.

Hosted in partnership with Brighter Investing, the evening explored how values-aligned banking can be the first step in an impact investing journey — and how mission-driven financial institutions like Self-Help finance affordable housing, small businesses, homeownership, and other community investments.

A huge congratulations to Jabari Moore and Keyshawn Moore for completing their summer internship with Self-Help Credit Union's Atlanta branch last week!

We could not have asked for a better pair of young men to work with this summer, and will miss them as they return to their studies at Morehouse College. From day one, Jabari and Keyshawn demonstrated a deep commitment to Self-Help's mission of advancing economic opportunity, and we were honored to have them represent us at community events, conferences, partner meetings, and in our daily branch interactions with credit union members.

Thank you so much Jabari and Keyshawn for letting us grow with you and be a part of your journey. We look forward to seeing you both continue to shine and become the leaders you were meant to be. Thank you, too, to everyone who was a part of their journey here, and for being a partner in this work.

Our Atlanta team was thrilled to host local faith leaders and community partners at our West End branch earlier this week for a "Building Bridges" gathering focused on strengthening relationships and deepening collaboration across our community.

Faith-based organizations have long served as trusted anchors in neighborhoods, providing not only spiritual guidance but also fostering connection, building trust, advocating for their communities, and helping meet local needs. Faith-based partners have also been an important part of Self-Help's mission for decades. We are grateful for the opportunity to build new relationships with local faith leaders in Atlanta and look forward to working together to create lasting local impacts.

Many thanks to our friends at West Hunter Street Baptist Church, Antioch Baptist Church North, Ebenezer Baptist Church,Martin Luther King Sr. Community Resources Collaborative, The Georgia Interfaith Public Policy Center, Shrines of the Black Madonna of the Pan-African Orthodox Christian Church, Brighter Investing, Pathway Christian Church, and everyone who joined us!

It was so wonderful having members of Self-Help's leadership team in town last week for UNCF's annual UNITE Conference, and to host a happy hour with our Founder & CEO, Martin Eakes - who joined fellow leaders from Hope Credit Union and Reinvestment Fund to share about the role of CDFIs in supporting capital and capacity needs at HBCUs.

Thank you Carl S. Brown and Dr. Shandra Jones for your amazing leadership of Self-Help's HBCU Promise+ initiative, and for inviting our Atlanta staff and summer interns to participate in the UNITE conference.

We are excited to see what's next for our HBCU work, and thrilled to have connected with so many great colleagues and partners here in the "A"!
