Seven years ago: we attended an Oscars watch party at FSU Film in Tallahassee. What a surprise ending to see Barry Jenkins (an FSU grad) win BEST PICTURE after a major snafu. Does anyone recall that night?

I was honored to share my perspective on placemaking and placebranding at the Metro Atlanta Future Summit in Douglasville last week. In my mind, there are “Seven Deadly Sins of Community Design” and I shared these vices with a remedy virtue. With the rapid growth of our region, it’s imperative we do a better job in designing communities that people love.

My friend, Chris Pumphrey, CEO of Elevate Douglas, is a great collaborator and fire starter in this work. Thanks for the invite. And an honor to be in the trenches with you fighting the good fight.

A few weeks ago, Team Vista presented the Douglas Arts and Culture 5 year Roadmap to the CAC board, leadership, mayor and others.

After interviewing dozens of citizens and community leaders through five “co-creation” work sessions, we arrived at seven key initiatives.

Above all, we concluded Douglas has a bright future ahead for a multitude of reasons.

Yes. When Charles Brewer developed the land in 2001 it was a risky proposition - turning a brownfield in a rough part of town into a thriving community.
I was betting on Charles to succeed, so I bought his first 3 lots in Glenwood Park that year. He mentioned there was this thing called the “BeltLine” hoping to run along side Bill Kennedy Way.
