Our Tanzania safari was everything we had hoped for and more.

We watched giraffes grazing behind our tent at sunrise, spotted lions resting in the open fields just beyond our camp and saw the Milky Way stretch across the night sky from our room in Tarangire.

But one of the moments that stayed with me the most happened during our drive from Arusha to Tarangire National Park.

We noticed countless half-built homes along the way, and our guide explained that with mortgage rates around 18%, many families build their homes one phase at a time — saving, building, and then saving again.

It was a powerful reminder that while the path to homeownership may look different around the world, the dream is remarkably similar: stability, security, and a place to build memories with the people we love.

A quick reminder from something I saw recently while reviewing a credit report:
Sometimes it’s not the big financial decisions that impact credit scores the most… it’s the little forgotten things.

Store credit cards are easy to overlook — especially when they were opened for that “save 15% today” discount and never used again.

One missed payment can quietly drag down an otherwise strong credit score.

I was at a really cool builder event today called “Walk Your Plans,” where buyers could physically walk through their future home before it’s even built.

The experience helps bring blueprints to life so buyers can better understand how the home will actually feel in real life.

And honestly, it reminded me why having real payment numbers matters too.

Many online calculators don’t fully account for taxes, insurance, HOA dues, mortgage insurance, or different loan structures — which means the estimated online payment can sometimes look very different from the true monthly cost.

That’s why a real pre-approval — and having a trusted advisor — matters.

Because qualifying for a payment and feeling comfortable with that payment are not always the same thing 😊

A couple I spoke with recently were preparing to buy a home and decided to really sit down together and review their recurring expenses before deciding what monthly payment would feel comfortable. And during the conversation, they realized they were spending almost $3,200/month eating out.

Not because they were irresponsible. Life had simply gotten busy.

What I really applauded was that they took the time to slow down, sit together, and thoughtfully evaluate what monthly payment would truly feel comfortable before jumping into a home purchase.

It was such a good reminder that financial peace often has less to do with income… and more to do with awareness and habits.

Sometimes the most valuable financial exercise is simply paying attention 😊
