For decades, retirement planning has been built around a familiar idea: build a big enough portfolio, then withdraw about 4% a year.

But does the 4% rule still work?

The alternative? Building a portfolio designed to generate cash flow, so investors can potentially fund retirement without continually selling down their assets.
