The American Cancer Society has designated June as "Cancer Survivor Awareness Month." I honor my parents Gene and Donna Rhodes everyday, but I want to make it a point to honor them this month.

My dad had Prostrate cancer and 9 years later he defeated cancer through his death. My mother had Breast Cancer over 30 years ago and was in remission when it came back--years later. After cancer spread to her whole body my mother defeated cancer through her death.

I am thankful that both of my parents were protected financially with supplemental Cancer insurance which provided a inancial cushion.

Cancer is not only a destructive disease, but its destruction can hit a family's budget as well. I have personally seen the financial destruction cancer has caused with families I know.

Cancer is not a pleasant subject to post about, but the American Cancer Society says that cancer will occur in 3 out of 4 families. This year (2018), there will be an estimated 56,920 new cases of cancer in Georgia alone. Cancer cost will exceed $226 billion in the United states this year. The largest expense is not the medical expenses, but the indirect costs that affect the family such as lost income, living expenses, child care, and even travel for the best treatment that health insurance doesn't cover.
