Renewal time is sneaky. Your policy auto-renews, the new declarations page shows up in the mail, and most people file it away without reading past the premium.
That's the moment to slow down. A 10-minute review once a year is the single highest-leverage thing you can do for your home and auto coverage, and it almost always pays for itself.
Here are the 5 questions we walk every client through before they renew:
1) Is my home's value up to date? Replacement cost has climbed faster than most policies have kept up. If your dwelling limit hasn't moved in a few years, you may be underinsured.
2) Is there a newly licensed driver in my household? Teens, new drivers, even an adult child home for the summer, they all need to be on the policy.
3) What's my deductible and can I afford it? Raising it can cut your premium meaningfully, but only if you'd actually have the cash on hand after a loss.
4) Is my bundle still in place? Home + auto with the same carrier is usually the easiest discount to keep, and the easiest one to accidentally lose.
5) Why did my rate go up? Increases are normal. Increases that outpace the market are a conversation worth having.
Save this post for when your renewal lands. Share it with someone who hates reading their policy as much as you do.
