The Microloan Program

The Microloan Program provides small, short-term loans to all types of small businesses. The SBA makes funds available through specially designated intermediary lenders, which are nonprofit community-based organizations with experience in lending as well as management and technical assistance. These intermediaries make loans to eligible borrowers. The maximum loan amount is

$50,000, but the average microloan is about $13,000. Microloans may be used for the following purposes:

Small businesses interested in the Microloan Program need to have a comprehensive business plan with financials, and file a complete application with the proper Intermediary Microlender in their area. A Microlender is a non profit organization that receives a loan from SBA. In turn, the Microlender makes loans to businesses in the community. The Microlender also provides technical assistance to the small business. All credit decisions are made by the Microlender. Although the application process can be very involved, SBA Expeditors will create your comprehensive business plan, and ensure that you file the proper application with the appropriate Intermediary in your area.
