However, this decline isn’t the result of a market crash or poor financial decisions, it reflects his longstanding commitment to giving away the majority of his wealth.

Gates has repeatedly expressed his desire not to “die rich” and has vowed to donate nearly all of his fortune through the Gates Foundation. His plan includes winding down the foundation by December 31, 2045, aiming to ensure that his wealth continues to drive progress in global health, education, and innovation for years to come.

This change also shifted his position on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, pushing him down to 12th place, while former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has risen to 5th. Gates’ philanthropic efforts continue to set a powerful example of generosity.
