The World Bank put the average cost of sending $200 to sub-Saharan Africa at 8.46% of the amount sent in the third quarter of 2025. That is $16.92 on a $200 transfer, the highest of any receiving region. The global average was 6.36%.

Two costs make up that total: the transfer fee and the FX margin. The fee is quoted up front. The margin is in the rate, so it shows up only as the difference between the quoted rate and the mid-market rate.
