Hurricane Helene has devastated farmers in Georgia. Georgia Farm Bureau is partnering with the
Georgia Department of Agriculture along with other ag organizations across the state to launch a relief fund specifically for farmers affected by this storm.

Georgia Farm Bureau (GFB) is accepting entries of dry Bermudagrass hay until Oct. 31 for its 2024 Quality Hay Contest. Hay samples will be tested at a UGA lab using the Relative Forage Quality (RFQ) Test to determine the winners. The RFQ Test provides an analysis of the nutritional value of the hay. Contestants will receive their lab analysis.

The first-place winner receives the free use of a Vermeer mower conditioner for one year, courtesy of the Vermeer Corporation. Winner may buy it at a reduced price at end of the year. Prizes will be awarded to 2nd – 5th place winners.

All residents in Georgia could be susceptible to storm damage from time to time. Check with your local agent to make sure your insurance coverage covers all of the things that are important to you and your family should disaster strike. Also be weary of those that like to capitalize on others’ misfortunes. Unfortunately, there are some contactors out there that prey on those that sustain damage during storms and may not be entirely trustworthy.

You should ensure that the contractor of choice is licensed, bonded and reputable. Ask for references if you have any doubts about their workmanship.
Be wary of anyone knocking on your door offering unsolicited repairs to your home.
