Great article in healthcare options in light of the expiring subsidies on the Marketplace.
Short term health plans may be a great answer for healthier consumers, especially in Missouri where the maximum duration can be nearly 3 years, but NOT in Illinois where they're restricted to only 6 months. Just be sure you know the holes in coverage and are comfortable with them. Check our website for quoting links!
I absolutely loath indemnity plans. The deceptive sales tactics used to convince people to buy these mish-mosh "bundled" atrocities are unbelievable. People buying them are extremely happy based on the low premiums and illusion of coverage. I get calls nearly every month from someone who has been duped into buying on of these bundles and is now paying out of pocket for nearly everything because the plans pay nearly nothing
Not mentioned: Nationwide PPO plans marketed to self-employed individuals. These are referenced based pricing plans and the reference is Medicare pricing. The big pull is being able to go to any doctor you want. But if the plan pay 200% of the Medicare accepted rate and your preferred doctor charges 400% of the Medicare accepted rate, you're paying the difference. These plans can work very well if you know how to make them work for you, just don't buy into that "any doctor" line. There's also generally not a significant savings over Marketplace plans.
Non-insurance options: Healthcare sharing programs. While these are not insurance, they are the right answer for millions of families across America. Each one is a little different so be sure to compare plans before buying anything. We have our favorites, just ask us for quoting links!
Without a fix from Congress, costs for many people who buy health care on the Affordable Care Act marketplace have gone up. Here's what's to know about cheaper choices ā and pitfalls to be aware of.
