For years our industry has relied on a familiar model for innovation: identify problems, document requirements, and hand them off to product and engineering teams to build solutions. The process works, but it also concentrates innovation in the hands of a relatively small number of technical specialists who must have enough domain knowledge to understand the problem. AI changes that dynamic.

With the right education, tools, governed data access, and controls, the technical barriers that once separated problem experts from solution builders begin to disappear. Domain experts become active creators of solutions, making innovation a natural extension of their expertise.

The result is not simply faster delivery. It is an expansion of innovation capacity, enabling more people to contribute, more problems to be addressed, and more opportunities for value to be discovered, tested, shared, and scaled.

Last week, Laura MacIntyre attended the Mortgage Bankers Association Chairman’s Conference, joining leaders from across residential, commercial, and multifamily real estate finance for conversations on the challenges, opportunities, and priorities shaping the industry today.

The conversations centered on what leaders are dealing with right now: a tough market, pressure to do more with less, new technology, AI, and the search for real growth opportunities.

Those themes mirror what we’re seeing every day across the industry. Leaders are looking at where technology, AI, and operational change can actually help their organizations move faster, work smarter, and stay competitive.

Grateful for the chance to connect with leaders thinking seriously about what comes next for the industry.

When we talk about AI in mortgage, not every use case carries the same level of risk or opportunity.

Tela G. Mathias broke down mortgage AI adoption into three categories: decisioning, decision support, and decision-adjacent workflows. The conversation explored why organizations should approach direct decisioning with caution, while recognizing the immediate value AI can bring through automation, summarization, sentiment analysis, and operational efficiency.

But the discussion went beyond incremental improvements. She shared a forward-looking perspective on how generative AI gives lenders the opportunity to rethink the mortgage process entirely by moving away from layered after-the-fact reviews and toward systems capable of evaluating decisions in real time, at scale.

The most meaningful AI transformation in mortgage won’t come from simply speeding up existing workflows. It will come from redesigning processes around what AI now makes possible.

Laura Maclntyre is on the ground at Mortgage Bankers Association Chairman’s Conference this week, where industry leaders are having the kinds of conversations that shape what comes next in housing finance.

The industry is navigating change on multiple fronts, from policy adoption and market shifts to technology strategy and customer expectations. This event provides an opportunity to hear how leaders across the industry are interpreting the same environment through different lenses. What looks like a challenge in one corner of the market can surface as an opportunity in another, creating a broader view of where the industry is heading.

At PhoenixTeam, we work alongside organizations as they navigate many of these same forces. We’re bringing a unique perspective to the conversation, one shaped by how strategic priorities, operational realities, and technology decisions intersect across the industry.

What an incredible week at the MISMO Spring Summit!

We were proud to join fellow industry leaders dedicated to advancing the standards that power the future of the mortgage ecosystem.

From working sessions to thought-provoking watercooler chats, the week was filled with opportunities to exchange perspectives, strengthen industry alignment, and help move standards forward. Here are the highlights:

✨ Throughout the Summit, our team of Certified MISMO experts, Erin Bittenbender, Kellie Stoll, and Leeann Walker remained focused on the real work behind industry progress. They facilitated several Development Workgroups (DWGs) and Communities of Practice (CoPs), guiding conversations around key initiatives and that shape what comes next.

✨ Tanya Brennan shared her expertise during a featured Summit session focused on standards implementation and maximizing the value of industry standards, highlighting the important role MISMO Certified Consultants play in helping organizations bridge the gap between standards adoption and real-world results.

✨ Meanwhile, Erin helped lead the conversation on Mortgage Compliance Dataset readiness, exploring how lenders and technology partners can prepare for a more streamlined and standardized approach to compliance.

✨ Adding to an already successful week, Kellie received her Certified MISMO Standards Professional (CMSP®) designation! This achievement is a testament to her expertise and ongoing commitment to setting the highest standard in mortgage technology. Congrats Kellie 🎉

Thank you to everyone who to the time to connect with us. We're leaving Louisville energized by the momentum created and the commitment shared across the MISMO community.
