Big Mac — 65 cents. Hamburger — 28 cents. Milk — 20 cents.

I keep looking at this McDonald's board from 1972 and doing the math the way I always do in the drive-thru line.

Back then you could feed two adults and two kids, burgers and fries and drinks, for under four dollars. It wasn't fancy. It wasn't health food. It was cheap. That was the whole point. It was the backup plan for the nights you couldn't cook.

That backup plan doesn't really exist anymore.

The same Big Mac now averages $5.29. A family of four, even with two Happy Meals, is about $29 before tax. I can make chicken and rice for four for around ten or twelve dollars at home.

I get that costs went up for everyone. What bothers me is we still talk about fast food like it's the affordable option, and for a family, it's just not. It stopped being the cheap fix and turned into a full budget decision.

Conservative commentator Benny Johnson fired back at Barack Obama after the former president accused the Trump administration of targeting Rep. Ilhan Omar for political reasons.

Johnson pointed to the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment on Russian election interference, and stated that Obama’s administration politicized the intelligence process to undermine Donald Trump.
