We need to take ACTION NOW! Starting immediately, the criteria for non-domiciled CDLs must be completely revamped to protect American citizens.
"We also found that many had critical documents missing, no lawful presence checks, and entire verification processes skipped. But what is even more shocking is that California’s licensing system lacks even the minimal safeguards that other states have in place. That’s right. They don’t even have a functioning system to verify lawful presence or meet federal standards for issuing non-domiciled CDLs.
In fact, the auditors told us this is not incompetence. It’s willful neglect. California’s failure to follow the law is putting lives at risk on America’s roads every single day. So today, we’re holding them accountable.
By the end of the day today, our department will formally issue a Notice of Violation and a Notice of Funding Withholding to the state of California. What that means is they will lose key federal funding for their CDL programs until they fix this crisis. We’re not going to let a single unsafe license slip through the cracks anymore.
And as a final point, let me say this to the rest of the states: If you are violating federal law in any way when it comes to issuing CDLs, we are coming for you next. We have inspectors deployed nationwide. Zero tolerance.
Because this isn’t just about paperwork. It’s about the safety of American families out on our roadways.
