She Had a Family Once. Now She Lives in an Outdoor Kennel. π
This is 10 year old Eliza.
For most of her life, Eliza lived with a family. Then, when she was about 8 years old, and became inconvenient, they dropped her at the McDowell County shelter.
They never came back.
We pulled Eliza from the shelter expecting she'd find another home quickly. Instead, we've spent the last 2 years trying to help her recover from losing the only family she had ever known.
Today, Eliza is 10 years old and still living in an outdoor kennel at our rescue.
She watches other dogs arrive, get adopted, and leave. She stays.
Eliza isn't just another senior dog looking for a home.
Losing her family affected her deeply. She forms very strong bonds with her people and struggles when left alone. She was even almost adopted twice and returned because she became distressed when separated from her new family.
What Eliza needs is pretty specific:
π‘ Someone retired, working from home, or home most of the time and can take her with them when they leave
πΎ A farm, acreage, or rural property where she can safely roam and stay close to her people
πΎ Someone patient and experienced with anxious or emotionally sensitive dogs
π A home where she's included in everyday life and doesn't spend long periods alone
Eliza isn't the right fit for every home, but for the right person, she's an incredibly loyal and loving dog.
She loves people. She loves male dogs. She loves being close to her person. And after everything she's been through, she still wants nothing more than to belong to someone.
The reality is that dogs like Eliza are easy to overlook. She's older. She has baggage. She needs a special situation.
But she's also spent 2 years waiting for someone to give her another chance.
No inquiries in over a year. No applications.
Just waiting. She's no longer waiting for the perfect family, she's waiting for someone to save her from dying here
Please read her story and share it. The person she's been waiting for may not know she exists yet
