Share Your Input & Be Entered to Win a $250 Tractor Supply Gift Card!

The Center for Land-Based Learning’s AgHiRE program is seeking feedback from agricultural employers to help shape the future of farm workforce and leadership training. After successfully completing two pilot leadership programs for Spanish-speaking employees, AgHiRE is gathering employer input to better understand workforce gaps and the skills needed for advancement and promotion opportunities.

Agricultural employers are invited to complete a brief 10-minute survey. Participants who complete the survey will automatically be entered into a drawing to win a $250 Tractor Supply Co. gift card.

Now is not the time to take our eyes off the ball regarding public policy. California FarmLink understands that the agricultural, food, and financial systems we have today are shaped in large part by public policy.

After deep dives with all of our program teams, we created policy principles on core issues important to our work:
🍃 Agricultural Credit
🍃 Building Wealth and Financial Resilience
🍃 Land Tenure
🍃 Climate Resilience
🍃 Healthy Communities
🍃 Water is Life

We have shown up at the policy table for over 25 years - offering ideas and solutions to address the challenges and lived experiences of the farmers we strive to serve. Especially important is our ability to bring farmers, ranchers, and fishers to the table.

If you are a FarmLink client and have an interest in this work, contact us at [email protected] Read a summary of our principles at https://www.californiafarmlink.org/resource-library/policy-principles

Business succession opportunity in Los Osos: the owners of a 38-year old wholesale nursery with established customers (retail nurseries, landscape contractors, institutions, resorts, etc.) are looking toward retirement and seeking a new owner for their business. This is a turn-key opportunity for someone who would like to run a nursery business, with potential to transition and develop new enterprises.

Available infrastructure includes nine greenhouses, four 20' x 96' and five 20' x 60' with mist systems; two 35' x 96' propagation cold frames with misting and Bio-Therm tubbing for heating; three additional small structures including a 10' x 10' office and two 10' x 12' storage sheds. Water is supplied by a well that has never run dry, and there is a reverse osmosis system and underground irrigation system in place. A range of equipment and vehicles are also available for lease or purchase. Five acres of flat, open land surrounding the greenhouses could be used for additional crop production.

A variety of options are possible in terms of a lease arrangement and/or purchase of the business, and the landholders are willing to offer seller financing. The land and infrastructure could be leased long-term to the buyer, while equipment and vehicles could be leased or purchased. The Landholders live on the property, and plan to make themselves available to provide mentorship and training to the new owner.

A well-established and successful bamboo specialty nursery/farm in Sebastopol is seeking new stewards and owners as the current owners prepare for retirement. With a solid reputation as the Bay Area's bamboo experts, this business serves the greater San Francisco Bay Area and offers a unique opportunity for the right buyer to step into a thriving operation.

The nursery specializes in over 90 bamboo species, cultivated in sizes ranging from small 1-gallon pots to large specimen plants. The inventory is tailored to species that thrive in the temperate Bay Area climate, providing customers with beautiful natural privacy screens and other horticultural highlights. Additionally, there are over 80 more species available by special order.

The new owner would ideally need a site of 3-10 acres, preferably flat or gently sloping, with available water. The current owners are open to mentoring and assisting with the transition, and the business is priced at $1 million all-inclusive, with flexibility to scale to the buyer’s desired size. There is also the possibility of continuing to operate on the current site during the transition.
