🚨 Medicare Minute for Agents

Did you know? A client can delay Part B without penalty if they’re covered under an actively working spouse’s employer group health plan.

Many people assume Medicare enrollment is mandatory at 65, but that’s not always true.

✅ If the beneficiary (or their spouse) is actively employed and covered by a qualifying employer health plan, they may be able to:
• Delay Part B
• Avoid the Part B late enrollment penalty
• Enroll later using a Special Enrollment Period

⚠️ The key is that the coverage must be based on current active employment. COBRA, retiree coverage, and Marketplace plans generally do not count.

Agent Tip: When speaking with someone turning 65, always ask, “Are you or your spouse still actively working?” That one question can prevent costly mistakes and lifetime penalties.

💡 Are You Missing Benefits You Already Have?

Many Medicare beneficiaries are surprised to learn their plan may include benefits they rarely use—or didn’t even know were available.

Depending on your plan, you could have access to:
✅ Dental coverage
✅ Hearing benefits
✅ Vision care
✅ Fitness memberships
✅ Over-the-counter allowances

The challenge isn’t always finding a better plan—sometimes it’s simply understanding the benefits you already have.

A quick review could help you get more value from your coverage and potentially save money throughout the year.

📢 Medicare Is Changing—Are You Keeping Up?

Medicare isn’t something you set once and forget. Plan costs, provider networks, prescription drug coverage, and available benefits can change from year to year.

That’s why staying informed matters.

Before making Medicare decisions, ask yourself:
✔️ Has my medication list changed?
✔️ Are my doctors still in-network?
✔️ Am I paying more than necessary?
✔️ Am I taking advantage of all the benefits available to me?

A little time spent reviewing your coverage today could help you avoid unexpected costs and coverage gaps tomorrow.

If you have questions about Medicare, we’re here to help you understand your options and make confident decisions about your healthcare coverage.
