What is an Annuity?

An annuity is a vehicle you can save your money in that will give you a higher rate of interest than a conventional savings account. As displayed below there are different types of annuities. Most annuities require a 6 - 10 years maturity period where they invest your money at 6 - 8% interest and you can set up distributions after that for the rest of your life.

Fixed - offers a low fixed rate of normally 1% or less.

Indexed - offers you interest rates with a specified cap and usually zero floor (meaning you wont lose).

Variable - invests your money in the market so you have no guarantees, no ceiling and no floor. it is a risk. Not really where you want your retirement money to be.
