Fifty years ago tonight, Elvis Presley made history as the first solo entertainer to hold a live concert broadcast internationally via satellite. More than a billion people from more than 40 countries across Asia and Europe tuned in to watch "Aloha from Hawaii."
However, to avoid a programming conflict with Super Bowl VII and Elvis on Tour, which was playing in cinemas at the time, NBC opted to air a ninety-minute television special of the concert on April 4.

On this day, 125 years ago, in 1898, Henry Lindfield's car rolled out of control down a hill in London, England, and hit a tree. Supposedly, he became the first driver to die due to a motor vehicle accident. Since that time and with the advent of multiple safety devices, the number of fatalities in the United States has continued to decline, considering the number of drivers and miles traveled.

In January 1953, GM debuted the Corvette concept car (pictured below) at its Motorama auto show at the Waldorf Astoria, New York. It featured a fiberglass body and a six-cylinder engine. According to GM, the car was named for the "trim, fleet naval vessel that performed heroic es**rt and patrol duties during World War II." The Corvette was a big hit with the public at Motorama, and GM soon put the roadster into production.
