Having money and having money available when you need it aren’t always the same thing.

You can have a healthy investment portfolio, retirement accounts, real estate, and other assets...and still find yourself wondering where the cash is going to come from when a big expense pops up.

That’s where liquidity comes into the picture.

The goal isn’t necessarily to keep a huge amount of money sitting in cash “just in case.” It’s about finding the right balance between having enough readily available for your everyday life and unexpected expenses while still allowing the rest of your money to stay invested toward your longer-term goals.

And that balance can change as your life changes.

How confident are you that you have the right amount of cash available—not too much and not too little?

Who says you have to have your entire career figured out by 40?

For many women, their 40s and beyond can actually be the perfect time to rethink what they want from work. You have experience, perspective, a much better idea of what you’re good at—and, perhaps most importantly, a clearer sense of what you’re no longer willing to put up with. 😉

Whether you’re looking for more flexibility, better pay, a new challenge, or work that fits the life you have now, changing careers doesn’t mean starting over. It means taking everything you’ve learned and deciding where you want to take it next.

This article looks at some of the best jobs and career paths for women over 40 in 2026.

Would you consider making a major career change at this stage of your life?

If you’re a woman over 40 exploring your career options, 2026 is shaping up to be a strong year for making a move. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics

Most of us don't think twice about maintaining our homes, our cars, or our investment portfolios.

But when it comes to our own health? It's surprisingly easy to say, "I'll schedule that next month."

The problem is that delaying preventive care or ignoring symptoms often turns a small issue into a much bigger—and more expensive—one.

Taking care of your health isn't just a medical decision. It's a financial one, too.

Your future self will thank you for making those appointments, asking the questions, and addressing concerns before they become crises.

Remember when working out meant trying to burn as many calories as possible and hoping you could still walk the next day? 😏

After 40, the goal starts to look a little different. Strength, mobility, balance, and being able to carry all the groceries inside in one trip suddenly feel a lot more important.

The good news? You don’t need to spend hours at the gym or train like you’re auditioning for an action movie. A smart, consistent approach to fitness can help you stay strong, capable, and ready for whatever the next few decades bring.

Experts share a few tools, from dumbbells to resistance bands to cooling towels, to help women get stronger

Summer travel can be fun, exciting, exhausting, unpredictable...and sometimes all of those things before you’ve even made it to your destination. But somewhere between the delayed plans, unexpected detours, new places, and time spent with people you care about, there are usually a few lessons worth bringing home with you.

This summer was no exception.

Some of the things I was reminded of along the way have very little to do with travel itself. They’re about staying flexible, making room for what matters, appreciating the moment you’re in, and remembering that even the best-laid plans sometimes need to change.

And, as it turns out, a lot of those lessons apply to financial planning, too.

I’m sharing a few of my takeaways from my summer travels—and what they reminded me about planning for life along the way.

Helping family is one of those things that can start small. You cover an unexpected bill. Help with a down payment. Loan a little money to a sibling. Pick up an expense for the grandkids.

Then one day you realize…you may have slowly become the family bank. 💸

For successful women especially, being financially secure can sometimes mean becoming the person everyone turns to when they need help. And while there’s nothing wrong with wanting to support the people you love, every “yes” has the potential to affect your own financial plans.

The question isn’t just, “Can I afford to help?” It’s also, “How does helping fit into the bigger picture?”

Before automatically saying yes—or feeling guilty about saying no—it helps to understand what you can comfortably give, where you may need boundaries, and how today’s generosity could affect tomorrow’s goals.

Have you ever found it difficult to decide when to financially help a family member?

Many successful women become the financial safety net for their families. Learn how to set healthy financial boundaries while still supporting the people you love.

By your 40s, you’ve learned a few things.

Not every invitation deserves a yes. Sleep is a legitimate hobby. Comfortable shoes are worth the money. And protecting your time and energy becomes a lot more important than impressing everyone. 😏

This article shares habits that can help women in their 40s build a life that feels healthier, happier, and more intentional—without pretending you need to completely reinvent yourself before Monday.

Consider it a reminder that small changes count, boundaries are useful, and you’re allowed to decide what works for you now.

What are some life habits of women in their 40s? The sooner you listen to these pieces of wisdom from women in their 40s, the better your future could look.

You spent years building your . Now retirement is getting closer, and you’re facing another big decision: Should you leave your money where it is, roll it over, or use a combination of both?

There’s no universal right answer—and “I guess I’ll just leave it there” isn’t exactly a retirement strategy. 😏

Your investment choices, withdrawal needs, taxes, estate planning goals, and desire for flexibility can all play a role in deciding what makes sense for you.

Before you make a move (or decide not to make one), it’s worth understanding your options and how your TSP fits into your bigger retirement plan.

TSP is a solid option for retirement savings, but it doesn’t have to be your only option. Exploring a rollover could give you more investment choices, flexibility, and control.

By your 40s and 50s, you’ve probably survived bad bosses, pointless meetings, at least one “team-building exercise” you’d rather forget, and more workplace changes than you can count. 😏

But this stage of your career isn’t just about hanging on until retirement. It can be the perfect time to get more intentional about what you want next—whether that means building new skills, strengthening your network, asking for more, or finally making a change you’ve been thinking about for years.

You have too much experience to put your career on autopilot now.
