Have you noticed that severe weather seems a bit more…severe lately? That’s because it is 🌩️ Scientists have noted that there’s been an uptick in record-setting extreme weather.

While there’s no way to protect all of your assets in the case of a storm, you can still be prepared. Here are 4 tips:

☂️ Opt-in to local weather notifications. Even with your phone on silent or “do not disturb,” weather alerts will still push through.
☂️ Know where you will go. Once you get that alert, you may have just minutes to get to safety. Ensure everyone in your home knows where that is.
☂️ Secure untethered outdoor items. Porch furniture, grills, umbrellas, etc. should be placed securely inside a garage or other shelter.
☂️ Hire a tree service to identify dangerous trees. In particular, unhealthy trees can cause significant damage during a storm.

Stay safe, and as always, let us know if you need anything! Feel free to share these tips to help keep others safe, too 🧡

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, to enforce Abraham Lincoln’s order to end slavery in the rebelling state farthest west

It’s been observed as a day to honor this history and celebrate Black culture and resilience, and it officially became a federal holiday in 2021.

In observance of the holiday, our office will be closed on June 19th. We’ll be back on Monday, June 22nd. We hope you have a meaningful and joyful Juneteenth!

June is National Homeownership Month, which makes now a good time to ask an important question: Does your homeowners insurance still match the home you have today? Many homeowners set their policy once and rarely revisit it, but when updates are made or coverage needs change, coverage can quickly become outdated, leading to costly surprises at claim time.

Here are a few common homeowners insurance mistakes to avoid.

🏠 Unreported renovations - Kitchen upgrades, finished basements, or added structures such as sheds or garages can increase replacement costs, but current coverage may not reflect recent upgrades.

🏠 No home inventory - Without photos, receipts, or a basic list of belongings, it can be harder to document losses and support a claim.

🏠 Missing endorsements - Endorsements (also referred to as riders) can increase limits for high-value items or add coverage for things like sewer backup or equipment breakdown. If you’ve added valuable items or your needs have changed, adding an endorsement can help ensure that your home remains fully covered.

A policy review now can help catch small issues before they become bigger problems during a claim. Contact our office, and we can help you review your homeowners policy and ensure your coverage reflects your home, belongings, and current needs.

Maybe we don’t want to crush it today — maybe we just want to sorta crinkle it. And that’s okay. Progress doesn’t always have to be perfect — sometimes it’s just about showing up, even a little wrinkled.

Every June 14th, we celebrate the Stars and Stripes on Flag Day. While we’re all familiar with the United States’ flag, we might not know all of the history behind this symbol.

To celebrate, we wanted to share a few fun facts about the history of the flag that might surprise you:

🔹 The current 50-star design was created by a 17-year-old. Robert G. Heft of Lancaster, Ohio, submitted the design as a high school project in 1958. It was chosen by President Eisenhower out of more than 3,000 submissions in 1960.

🔹 There have been 27 official versions of the flag. Twenty-five of those changes were solely to update the number of stars every time a new state joined the Union. The star additions were admitted on July 4th, and, together, they give us a rich visual history of the country's growth over time.

🔹 The colors for the flag have taken on their own meanings over the years. Charles Thomson, secretary of the Continental Congress in 1774, suggested that red represents hardiness and valor, white symbolizes purity and innocence, and blue stands for vigilance, perseverance, and justice.

🔹 Six American flags have been planted on the moon. Neil Armstrong and Edwin E. “Buzz” Aldrin were the first, but five additional Apollo missions have also left a flag on the lunar surface.

🔹 The current design is the longest-running version in history. No new states have been added since Hawaii joined the union in 1959, making this the most enduring flag design the country has ever had.

Wishing you a wonderful Flag Day filled with pride and appreciation for the history behind the flag we share.

A common question we hear from local business owners is whether a personal auto policy covers vehicles used for work.

For cleaners, landscapers, and contractors, the answer is often no.

If you are using a vehicle for deliveries or carrying heavy equipment between job sites, a personal policy typically will not provide the protection you need.

Commercial auto insurance is designed to cover the unique risks of your business operations.

Our team can help you identify the right coverage, so you stay protected while on the road. Call us at 410-573-9104 or visit simpsonandblom.com to review your current auto policy.
