Just a few years later, in 1898, the United States stepped onto the global stage during the Spanish-American War, signaling a shift in our nation’s role in the world.
But while the country was changing, something equally important was happening right here at home…
👉 In 1893, the State Bank of Annandale was chartered—establishing a community bank built on trust, service, and a commitment to the people of Annandale, Minnesota.
For over a century, that same dedication has remained at the heart of what community banking means: neighbors helping neighbors, local decisions, and a shared investment in the future.

The early 20th century was a time of incredible change, innovation, and pivotal moments in American history.
In 1901, the nation was shaken by the assassination of President William McKinley, a turning point that brought Theodore Roosevelt into office.
Just two years later, in 1903, the Wright Brothers achieved the first successful powered flight, forever changing how we travel and connect. ✈️
That same year, sports history was made with the first-ever World Series, as the Boston Americans (now the Red Sox) faced the Pittsburgh Pirates, helping cement baseball as America’s pastime. ⚾
Closer to home, The State Bank of Danvers was officially chartered in 1902 in Danvers, MN—beginning its mission of serving and supporting the local community. 🏦
From world-changing milestones to hometown beginnings, this era helped shape the future in more ways than one.

The 1920s—often called the Roaring Twenties—was a time of transformation across America. Economic growth surged, jazz filled the airwaves, prohibition reshaped social life, and women achieved a historic milestone with the passage of the 19th Amendment. Then it all came crashing down with the dramatic stock market crash of 1929, bringing the decade to an end.

But while the country was changing, so were we. In 1920, the State Bank of Annandale relocated to the newly built Young & Brown PLLC building. Then, just a year later, in 1921, Citizens State Bank moved into the building now occupied by State Farm, continuing the growth of local banking in the community.

The 1930s were a decade of hardship, change, and rising global tension.

From the devastation of the Great Depression to the environmental crisis of the Dust Bowl, millions struggled to survive. In 1935, Social Security was established, and in 1939 the films "Gone With The Wind" and "The Wizard of Oz" ushered in new age in Hollywood.

At the same time, powerful dictators rose in Europe and by 1939, these events set the stage for World War II—forever shaping the modern world.

🏦 In 1933, even local communities were adapting—State Bank of Annandale and Citizens State Bank merged to form Annandale State Bank, with assets totaling $337K.

The 1940s was a decade that reshaped the world forever 🌍
It began in turmoil, as global conflict erupted into World War II. The attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 pulled the United States into the war, marking a turning point that united the nation. Just a few years later, the brave Allied invasion of D-Day (June 6, 1944) helped begin the end of N**i occupation in Europe.
Amid the war’s devastation, the world witnessed unimaginable tragedy during the Holocaust, where millions of innocent lives were lost— an atrocity we must never forget.
In 1945, the war reached its conclusion in dramatic and devastating fashion with the first use of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, changing warfare—and the world—forever.
As the dust settled, a new global tension emerged. Former allies became rivals, ushering in the beginnings of the Cold War, a new era defined by political conflict, nuclear fear, and the struggle for influence around the globe.
The 1940s remind us of both humanity’s darkest moments and its incredible resilience—and how the choices of one decade can shape generations to come.

Post‑war America boomed—suburbs grew, the economy surged, and rock & roll burst onto the scene changing music and culture forever. The decade was also shaped by the Korean War, Cold War, and a domestic Red Scare.

In 1953, Annandale State Agency (now Lake Central Insurance Services) began selling insurance, starting a legacy of local service.

From the Civil Rights Act pushing the U.S. toward greater equality, to the Vietnam War sparking protests and tough conversations nationwide, it was a time of both progress and tension.
The assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and Civil Rights activist Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. deeply shook the country, leaving a lasting emotional impact and reminding people just how uncertain those times were.
And while so much was happening here on Earth, humanity was reaching for the stars 🚀
The Apollo missions showed what innovation, determination, and teamwork could achieve.
It was a decade of change, loss, courage, and incredible breakthroughs—proof that even in the most challenging times, history can move forward in powerful ways.

The early 70's brought the Watergate scandal and an energy crisis. The late 70's brought us gas shortages and the 1979 Iran Hostage Crisis. In Between, Disco rose to fame, modern technology was just being born, and we celebrated the nation's 200th birthday.

In 1971, we hired Dwayne Bruns who would later become President & CEO. We also opened our Clearwater branch which was located in the now Animal Hospital building. By decade’s end, our total assets reached $19.9 million.
