Dave Ramsey has a great article on if someone should file married separate. In Texas we are a community property state so the normal benefits of married separate may not be the same for you in Texas. If you have any questions about the benefits of married joint or married separate feel free to give us a call.

Managing your money as separate individuals doesn’t mean you have to file taxes that way.

Dave Ramsey offers two great pieces of advice;

1. Hire a tax professional to do your taxes. (A tax pro, on average, gets $800+ more in tax savings for a tax payer compared to self prepared returns!)

2. Hire a CPA or EA, as your tax professional! "These folks are experts in tax preparation and tax planning. That means they can help you save on taxes this year and show you how to save money on your taxes in the future. They can also represent you if you’re audited by the IRS."

Commercials for Turbo Tax have hit the TV, they say "you don't have to be a genius to do your taxes." They're right, you don't have the be a genius but you'd better understand how to research the 74,608-page-long federal tax code. A CPA or EA doesn't know all 74,608 pages but we have resources available that tax payers don't, plus CPA's and EA's take 30+ continuing education hours per year
