Thank you to everyone who danced with us at Sonic Lunch in 2026! We are so grateful for the incredible support and energy you brought to every show this summer. A special thank you to Mavis Staples and Mei Semones for giving us such an incredible ending to our season. What a way to close out our 19th season! Sonic Lunch wouldn’t be possible without our amazing partners at ann arbor's 107one and Perich Advertising + Design, and of course, everyone who continues to make these free concerts such a special part of downtown Ann Arbor. Thank you for another unforgettable summer. We’ll see you at Sonic Lunch in 2027 for our 20th season!

Mavis Staples is at Sonic Lunch tomorrow! This legendary 86-year-old gospel, soul, and R&B diva possesses a quintessentially gospel voice. With a trademark blend of muscular power and shimmering grace punctuated at times with a startling growl, her luminous singing is designed to, in her words, “leave people feeling better than I found them.” Her 2025 solo album, Sad and Beautiful World, a fierce and loving dispatch for grim times, appeared on several critics’ year-end lists. Opener: Brooklyn singer-guitarist Mei Semones performs jazz-influenced indie pop originals with lyrics in both Japanese and English. Thursday, Aug. 27, 11:30 a.m., Michigan Theater. Free (doors close when seats are full).

Mavis Staples is this Thursday!!!!
Here are some reminders for Thursday's bank of ann arbor Sonic Lunch at the Michigan Theater:
• Doors: 11 AM | Mei Semones: 11:30 AM | Mavis Staples: 12:05 PM
• This show is free, general admission, and open to all ages.
• Because this show is general admission, we ask that you please shift to accommodate everyone. Help us eliminate empty seats whenever possible.
• Parking Garages: Maynard Structure - 286 Feet
Liberty Square Garage - 326 Feet
• The line will form down Liberty Street toward Liberty Plaza.
• Accessible seating is available.
• Small purses and personal bags are generally fine.
• Backpacks and large bags will not be permitted.
• Outside food and beverages must remain outside the theater.
• Ginger Deli will have tables outside for anyone who would like to grab lunch while waiting in line. There are also some amazing local businesses nearby.
• Restrooms are available inside the theater and have recently been remodeled. They look amazing!!!
• If you are saving seats for friends or family who are actively on their way, please be considerate of others and avoid leaving large sections of seats empty for extended periods.
• Please dispose of all trash on your way out.
• Please be respectful of theater staff and volunteers as they help guide seating and manage the crowd.
• Once the theater reaches capacity, entry may be delayed until seats become available.
