Medicare premiums aren’t one-size-fits-all. If your income is higher, you could be paying more—and not even realize why.

That extra charge? It’s called IRMAA—the Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount. It affects your Part B and Part D premiums and is based on your income from two years ago.

👉 For 2026, IRMAA applies if your 2024 income was over:
• $109,000 (single filers)
• $218,000 (married filing jointly)

If you’re planning to retire soon, it’s smart to reduce income in the years before you retire to stay under these thresholds. Big Roth conversions, asset sales, or even delayed Social Security can impact what you pay.

Had a life change since 2024? Retirement, divorce, or the loss of a spouse? You may be able to request a reconsideration with Social Security to reduce or remove IRMAA.

Planning ahead can protect your retirement income. Every dollar counts.

Yes, You Can Get Life Insurance with a Pre-existing Condition — Here’s What You Need to Know

If you’re living with a pre-existing condition, you might assume life insurance is off the table. Fortunately, that’s not the case. Thanks to advancements in medical treatment and evolving underwriting practices, coverage is more accessible than ever — even for those with serious medical histories.

Whether you have diabetes, high blood pressure, a history of cancer, or another condition, many life insurance companies are willing to work with you. In fact, some carriers now even offer policies to HIV-positive applicants — something that was virtually unheard of just a few years ago.

🔎 What to Expect During the Process

Higher premiums are likely depending on the severity and management of your condition

Additional documentation may be requested, such as medical records or lab results

Longer underwriting times are common, but often necessary to secure better rates

Qualification tiers range from “Preferred Plus” to “Standard Plus,” with options even for those with more complex health histories

💡 Tips for Getting the Best Policy
Use an independent broker who can present your case to multiple insurers — underwriting standards vary widely

Maintain control of your condition — well-documented stability (e.g., stable blood sugar or remission) helps your chances

Explore no-exam or limited underwriting policies for smaller amounts of coverage if traditional options don’t work out

Check for group policies through your employer — these often don’t require any medical screening

Even if your health isn’t perfect, don’t assume you’re uninsurable. There are many creative ways to get the protection you need — whether it’s for final expenses, family income, or legacy planning.

Is It Ever Too Late for Life Insurance?

Many people assume life insurance is only for the young — for families with mortgages or children to raise. But life insurance can be just as valuable, if not more so, during retirement.

For retirees, the question isn’t just “Do I need life insurance?” but “What could it do for my family?”

Life insurance can help replace lost pension income for a surviving spouse, cover final expenses, pay off debts, or even fund a trust for your grandchildren. It can also serve as a powerful estate planning tool — ensuring that your loved ones aren’t forced to sell assets or draw from retirement funds to cover taxes or expenses.

Even later in life, life insurance can help protect your legacy, support your favorite charities, and provide peace of mind for your family’s financial future.

It’s never too late to plan ahead. The best time to explore your options is today — while you have the ability to make the choice for yourself.

Ready to find out how life insurance could fit into your retirement plan?

Let’s talk about a policy that meets your goals and protects what matters most.

🤔 Think your health insurer just pays the bills? Think again.

Health insurance companies help shape nearly every part of your healthcare experience — from which doctors you can see to what treatments are approved, how much you pay, and when care is covered.

They're involved in:
✔️ Building doctor and hospital networks
✔️ Reviewing and approving treatments
✔️ Managing costs and negotiating prices
✔️ Preventing fraud and misuse
✔️ Influencing which services get prioritized

They don't just sit in the background — they’re an active part of how care gets delivered.
