Last week, several area students participated in Texas Farm Bureau's District 11 Engage Event at Long Acres Ranch in Richmond. Students learned more about Texas Farm Bureau and agriculture, explored entrepreneurial concepts, gained insight into the free enterprise system and discovered how to have an engaging presence on social media.

The Engage event is one of four experiences that make up the Student Success Series and is for students that are entering 10th and 11th grades next school year. If you're interested in learning about the other experiences that are part of the Student Success Series for other grade levels, click on the following link - https://texasfarmbureau.org/.../student-success-series/

This week, two of our County Farm Bureau leaders, AJ Mikel (with his wife Dani) and Madi Morgan (with her husband Michael), were in Washington D.C. for Texas Farm Bureau's National Affairs Awards Trip.

Nearly 300 Texas farmers and ranchers were on Capitol Hill to advocate for the future of agriculture. They met with lawmakers to discuss critical issues like the farm bill, labor, trade, and the threat of the New World Screwworm.

They also had the opportunity to hear from U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brook Rollins, State Senator Ted Cruz, and Representative Glenn Thompson, among others.

It was a great week of advocacy work in D.C.! Thanks to AJ, Dani, Madi and Mike for representing our County Farm Bureau!

They read the book "Right This Very Minute: A Table to Farm Book about Food and Farming," then students made pipe-cleaner bees to learn about pollination!
