“I need help.”

An old picture from our first office, when my son wasn’t even a year old.

Looking back at it now, what stands out isn’t the office. It’s who was watching. 🤍

We spend a lot of time thinking about what we want to give our children.

A good life. Opportunities. Security. A future they can be proud of.

But some of the most important things we give them can’t be bought.

They’re watching how we treat people when there’s nothing to gain.
They’re watching whether our word means something.
They’re watching how we show up for our family, our friends, and the people who count on us.
They’re watching whether we choose to do the right thing, even when it would be easier not to.

That’s where integrity is taught.

Not just in what we tell our children, but in what they see us practice every day.

Be honest. Keep your word. Work hard. Treat people well. Show up for others. Take care of your family.

Those same values follow us into the way we work, lead, and serve others.

One day, the little ones watching us will be grown. Hopefully, when it’s their turn to lead a family, build something of their own, or simply be someone others can depend on, they’ll carry a little of what they saw in us with them.

That may be one of the most meaningful legacies we ever leave.

This one means a little more to us. ❤️

The very first insurance agency my wife and I purchased was Hays Insurance Agency, an agency founded by Jack Hays. We had the privilege of purchasing it from his son Jack Hays and carrying forward a small piece of something Jack had built years before us.

So seeing Columbia-Brazoria ISD rename Griggs Field Jack Hays Stadium is incredibly special.

When you’re building a business, raising a family, coaching kids, serving your community, you probably don’t realize in the moment the impact you’re making.

Years later, though, you get to see what lasts.

Jack’s legacy clearly reaches far beyond the insurance agency he built. It lives in the people he impacted, the kids he coached, the community he served, and now in a stadium that will carry his name for generations.

We’re grateful that our story crossed paths with his in a small way.

Congratulations to the Hays family on a very well-deserved honor.

A good name is worth leaving behind.
