As May comes to an end, so does a month dedicated to two topics that impact nearly every aspect of our lives: mental health and financial wellness.

Throughout the month, I've reflected on how often we separate these conversations when, in reality, they are deeply intertwined. Financial uncertainty can affect our confidence, relationships, sleep, and overall well-being. Likewise, our mental and emotional health can influence the financial choices we make every day.

Now, as we prepare to enter June and reach the midpoint of the year, I encourage everyone to take a moment for an honest check-in. **How are you really doing?**
* Not just financially.
* Not just professionally.
* But mentally, emotionally, and personally.

Have you made progress toward the goals you set in January?
* What has gone well?
* What needs to change?
* What do you want the next six months to look like?
The goal isn't perfection in either area. The goal is awareness, growth, and progress.

* Take the walk.
* Schedule the appointment.
* Create the budget.
* Review your goals.
* Ask for help.
* Celebrate your wins! Big and small.

There is still plenty of time left in the year to make meaningful progress. A healthy mind and a strong financial foundation are not destinations but ongoing journeys that deserve our attention every step of the way.

Here's to a purposeful, productive, and healthy second half of the year!

Building an emergency fund can feel overwhelming…

Save 3–6 months of expenses? That alone can create stress.

💡It's important to recognize that financial preparedness is a form of self-care.

When we don’t feel in control of our finances, it can lead to anxiety, stress, and uncertainty. But when we take small, intentional steps, we create clarity, confidence, and peace of mind.

That’s where the 1–3–6 method comes in...https://bit.ly/42f3NPH:

✔️ Start with **1 month of expenses** — a small but powerful safety net
✔️ Grow to **3 months** — building stability and reducing financial stress
✔️ Work toward **6 months** — creating long-term security and flexibility

This isn’t about doing everything at once.
👉 It’s about taking small steps that support both your financial and mental well-being.
👉 It’s acknowledging that every dollar saved is more than money. It’s less worry, more control, and a stronger sense of calm.

📌 Think of this as practicing **financial mindfulness** being intentional, present, and proactive with your money.

Start small. Stay consistent. Protect your peace.

Budgeting isn’t about restriction—it’s about **clarity and control**.

If you’re not sure where to start, this guide breaks it down into simple, practical steps:
https://nyl.co/4d30oIq.

It highlights a straightforward approach:
✔️ Needs – essentials like housing, food, and utilities
✔️ Wants – the things you enjoy
✔️ Debt & savings – building toward your future

💡 The goal is not about perfection, it’s preparedness.

When you understand where your money is going, you can make more intentional decisions, reduce stress, and build a plan that actually supports your life.

Take a few minutes to read through the article. It’s a great starting point if you’re looking to get more organized and confident with your finances.

May is **Mental Health Awareness Month** and I want to start a conversation that doesn’t get talked about enough:

👉 The connection between money and mental health.

Financial stress is real and it’s more common than we think. And, as noted in this article... https://bit.ly/425d7ph, a majority of people experience anxiety tied to finances, from everyday expenses to long-term planning.

But, here’s the good news:
💡 Financial preparedness can be a powerful form of mental self-care!

Some of the most impactful strategies aren’t complicated:
✔️ Acknowledging where you are financially
✔️ Creating a simple, realistic budget
✔️ Taking consistent, manageable actions over time

Avoiding finances oftentimes increase stress and anxiety. Facing them, even in small ways, can create a sense of control.

📌 Think of this as **financial mindfulness**:
Being present, informed, and proactive with your money—not perfect—just intentional.

This is the first of several posts I’ll be sharing this month focused on how financial strategies can support your overall well-being.

Building wealth is important but protecting your peace of mind is just as valuable.

"Service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living on this earth.” — Shirley Chisholm

What a wonderful opportunity it was to be in community with friends and supporters of the Family Nurturing Center on April 10th at our annual gala.

I’m always in awe of the tremendous work of the staff ~ many of whom were once part of the program themselves and chose to return, give back, and uplift others over time. That full-circle impact is inspiring.

The Family Nurturing Center is committed to helping families not only survive but thrive and I am proud to serve on the board and be part of this meaningful work.

Together, we raised $560,000! A powerful reflection of what’s possible when people come together with purpose. Congratulations to the Executive Directors Emma Tobin and Carol Torres on a job well done!
