Earlier this year, Sergeant Terry Rollins — Firefighter with Clemson University Fire and EMS — was cooking a Lowcountry boil for his family in the backyard when the unthinkable happened. He turned around to find his home engulfed in flames.

By the grace of God, no one was harmed, but by the time the fire was under control, his home was gone.

In the days that followed, Terry and his family witnessed the true strength of our community. Family, friends, neighbors, and even complete strangers stepped in — meeting their basic needs and surrounding them with compassion, comfort, and hope.

I first met Terry at this year’s When Life Sucks banquet (now the Palmetto Front Line Foundation) where our community rallied together to support Terry and his family during their transition.

A few months ago, Terry reached out to share that things were finally settling, and he was ready to move his family into their new home. I was honored to walk alongside this local hero in that process.

Thanks to an incredible partnership with the Palmetto Front Line Foundation and Holliday Ingram, we were also able to provide Terry and his family with an additional $2,500 through our Hero’s Road Home Grant Program to help with their down payment and closing costs. I’m thrilled to share that they closed on their new home just last week!

I am truly blessed to be part of this journey and to see firsthand what our community is capable of when we come together.

God bless Sergeant Rollins, his family, and all of our nation’s heroes. 🇺🇸

Today, we pause to remember two solemn moments that have shaken our nation.

On September 11, we remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost in a brutal act of terror. Mothers, fathers, children, brothers, sisters, and ordinary people were taken in an unimaginable moment. Over two decades later, the grief is still real, and so is the lesson: in the face of hate, we stood together.

Now, we mourn for Charlie Kirk. He was a husband, a father, a Christian, and a voice for conservative youth.

In both tragedies, we lose more than a life. We lose a piece of our shared sense of safety and our trust in civil conversation. But we also remember what can emerge from that loss. Compassion for those who suffer. A determination to protect the innocent. A reminder that political disagreement should never turn into political violence. And the truth that faith, family, and principles are worth defending, but never at the expense of someone’s life.

Let us unite, not in fear, but in purpose. Let us honor the memory of the innocent by committing to treat each other with dignity, respect, and love. Let us pray for Charlie Kirk’s family, for all 9/11 survivors, and for our nation and its future.

May we not forget. May we strive to be better. May our unity be stronger than our divisions.

I was honored to team up with Vets Helping Vets to help a veteran get his yard back in shape!
With the relentless heat waves lately, they told me they’d started to fall behind on their yards — but we were able to get it looking great again.

Stay tuned, because we’ll be collaborating to help more veterans and to spread the word about our Hero’s Road Home Grant, which offers up to $4,500 to any eligible veteran or first responder buying a home.

If you’d like to get involved, Vets Helping Vets meets every Wednesday morning at 9:00 AM. Links are below:
