Keep it? Maybe.

Sell it afterward? Also maybe.

The important part is knowing your options BEFORE assuming you have to sell.

There are qualification requirements and plenty of variables involved, so this isn't a one-size-fits-all strategy.

But it's absolutely worth a conversation.

If you bought your home several years ago, a couple of things may be working in your favor.

Depending on when and where you purchased, your home may be worth more today than when you bought it.
And you may be holding onto a mortgage rate you'd rather not give up.

That combination can mean you've built significant equity and refinancing your entire first mortgage may not be the most appealing way to access it.

The good news? It isn't necessarily your only option.
