Dear Members,

We’ve received several inquiries about how best to support Alaskans affected by Typhoon Halong. Our thoughts are with all those impacted and with the communities working tirelessly to recover. As insurance professionals, we understand how long the road to rebuilding can be — and there are meaningful ways we can help right now.

For those in Anchorage, Wendler Middle School is collecting fresh fruit donations to provide healthy snacks for displaced students.

For those outside the area, both the Cook Inlet Tribal Council and the Alaska Community Foundation (alaskacf.org) have established channels to contribute to relief and recovery efforts.

Bethel has also played a key role in supporting neighboring communities. Two local organizations there that could use additional assistance are Bethel Friends of Canines (bethelfriendsofcanines.com) and the Bethel Community Services Foundation (bcsfoundation.org).

Responsibilities: Providing personal insurance solutions for our clients, many who are members of Alaska USA Federal Credit Union. In this position, you will work with new prospects or cross sell to existing customers of our agency. You will also network with internal business partners, help develop outside centers of influence and participate in community events.
Experience: Must possess a Property/Casualty License. One year Personal Insurance sales or two years in a related position within the insurance industry is desired.
Education: High school graduate or equivalent. Insurance designation preferred.

While we are currently working remotely, we have the flexibility to consider candidates for this office based position at most of our six Alaska insurance locations.

Due to the rapid changes with the Alaska State COVID regulations we are saddened to announce the postponement of our 2020 AIIAB Convention at The Hotel Alyeska in Girdwood. The restrictions on gatherings and social events from the hotel has limited the event by so much we feel the level of previous conventions could not possibly be matched. With great deliberation, research and contact with our recourses we have determined a virtual shortened convention would be in our members best interest for 2020. (schedule stated within)

Bill requiring coverage of telehealth services signed into law
Expanded access to telehealth an important tool as Alaska prepares for COVID-19

JUNEAU – Today, a bill that requires state regulated private health insurers to cover telehealth services was signed into law by the governor.

Rep. Ivy Spohnholz (D-Anchorage) sponsored House Bill 29, which passed the Legislature with overwhelming support.

Access to telehealth is an important tool for healthcare workers to respond effectively to the new coronavirus, COVID-19, as it allows Alaskans to access initial screenings and routine healthcare without a risk of being exposed to the disease which was recently declared a global pandemic.

“Expanded access to telehealth makes us more prepared to deal with COVID-19,” Representative Spohnholz said. “House Bill 29’s rapid progression through the legislative process proves that Democrats and Republicans – in the House, Senate, and governor’s administration, can and will work together to pass the kind of reforms we need in the coming months.”

While Alaska is already at the forefront of providing telehealth services in urban, rural, aging, and underserved communities across our state, these successes are largely limited to people insured through Medicaid and the Tribal health system.

HB29 brings the benefits of telehealth to people covered by private plans and increases Alaskans’ access to better, faster healthcare. The new law takes effect immediately.
