Have you admitted to being "bad at math?" I have!
For me this statement rings true as I try and fail in the business endeavors over the years. Some of the many individuals I have worked with can probably relate to this as well.
Growing up I considered myself good at math, then I took calculus based physics in my 3rd year of college. I attended all lectures, studied hard and went to the professors office hours to get help. After the final test I end the class with a 42 out of 100 points! The Physics professor gave me a solid 'D' and I told myself at that moment, "I am not as good at math as I thought!"
What I have come to learn about math is at the core math is really the study of logic. Math is used to prove logical statements. If you have taken a calculated risk then your math will always be correct. If your math is wrong or "bad" then one of two things are happening. First, your logical thinking is wrong and you need to learn the correct problem solving strategy; or two, you did not understand question or problem you are trying to answer.
Mathematical reasoning is the process of applying logical thinking to a situation to derive the correct problem solving strategy for a given question.
Good math is just a matter of good thinking. Good thinking comes from understanding the question then finding the correct strategy to solve that question.
