When adjusting your clocks for daylight savings time today, it is a perfect time to replace the batteries in your smoke detectors and make sure they are working properly.

Along with this, it is a good idea to check the carbon monoxide detectors. These have a lifespan of only five to ten years depending on the model. The newer detectors now list a build date or an expiration date on the back. If there's no date on yours and you can't remember when you bought it, you're probably due for a new one.
