From retail, proprietary to institutional trading, it is clear that different approaches must be taken. Due to limited market access the club will act as a virtual proprietary trading firm, each trader offering individual ideas and strategies to be traded individually and as a team. Each trader will have a set account, which they are responsible for reporting, but our club's total p/l will be repo
rted as a whole. Various platforms will be used to simulate the markets accurately. Think or Swim and MT4 will be widely used for equity and currency trading. At the end of each session, we will come together to talk about mistakes, and ideas for further improvements. With each trader comes more experience added to the group. We acknowledge these differences and explore strategies in numerous markets. In addition to managing their individual accounts, managing of the club account will be discussed together. Each trader will be expected to give some sort of presentation in their area of expertise at some point in time. A book will be assigned to be read, picked by previous professionals. The book will be discussed, but reading will be optional, as we understand everyone has their own interests. Treat the books as more of a "selected reading list". During the course of our studies here at UMass, we will have many exciting guest speakers relevant to trading and financial institutions. As a smaller group, we will have the advantage to really get an education. Speakers will primarily be well connected professors of the UMass community, as well as financial professionals. To stay professional, I encourage professional study (ACI dealing test, finra series license). My goal is to have everyone well prepared for the reality of trading and catching a career. Optional arranged meetings with the career center, mock interviews, quantitative studies ect will be offered. In addition, we operate as a group, so I encourage sharing of resources and contacts. Sharing internship experience and references is good team culture.
