Wonderful to see the American Association of Daily Money Managers get some well deserved publicity in the latest AARP Magazine. For those of you who have never heard of a Daily Money Manager, we are professionals who can handle your day-to-day finances on a short-term or long-term basis. For Just 2 Much 2 Do professionals, we are frequently called upon to assist individuals in a medical crisis who cannot address their day to day paperwork and to assist older adults who are struggling to keep there day to day paperwork organized and under control.

Referred to as solo agers or unsupported adults, they have no family on which to rely as they age. So many are embarrassed by this situation and do not realize how common it is.

This is an excellent and poignant article about a family's experience with having a loved one with dementia in a nursing home during this long year of Covid. The New York Times article brings home how important the ties that bind an individual with dementia to their former life are. In this case, isolation from her sisters and even her roommate take it's toll on the time that Peggy has left. Society has shined many a spot light on our children being isolated from their friends, activities, and routines. What about our elders who suffer in silence?

The pandemic has stolen away the chance to surround the sister we are losing to dementia with our love, so that she does not have to face death alone.

There is often a real misconception about LTC, who provides it, and who pays for it. This article provides a great overview of the different types of long term care. The post important point is that "Long-term care costs, whether at home, in assisted living or in a nursing home, are paid primarily from three sources: out-of-pocket, Medicaid, and long-term care insurance. Medicare, the health insurance for people over age 65, only pays for up to 100 days of skilled nursing facility care following a hospitalization, and only for so long as the patient is deemed to need skilled care."

Long-term care is the care you need if you can’t perform daily activities on your own for an extended period of time. There are a number of different ways that long-term care can be provided.
