Jim did everything right.

He retired at 64 with a solid nest egg, no debt, and a team around him: a banker, a CPA, and a financial advisor.

Each one was smart. Each one was right—on their own island.

His banker told him to stay liquid. “Rates are good. Keep flexibility.”

His financial advisor said stay invested. “You need growth to outpace inflation.”

His CPA warned him about taxes. “Don’t take too much income this year—you’ll jump brackets.”

So Jim did a little of everything.

He kept too much cash.
He stayed invested—but didn’t rebalance.
He delayed withdrawals to “save taxes.”

Then 73 hit.
RMDs kicked in. Income spiked. Social Security got taxed harder than expected. Medicare premiums jumped. Suddenly, the “tax savings” he protected for years turned into a much bigger bill—at exactly the wrong time.

Everyone had given good advice.
It just didn’t fit together.

It was worse than a man with two watches—Jim had three, and none of them told the same time.

That’s the problem with siloed advice.
Banking decisions, investment strategy, and taxes don’t operate separately in retirement. They collide.

And if they’re not coordinated, you don’t get clarity—you get consequences.

At Kenai Investments, we bring your tax strategy and financial plan together into one coordinated approach—so you can move forward with clarity.

Running a business is basically just one long asset allocation decision.

You cut costs in one place so you can invest in something else that clearly has a higher expected return… right?

Well, I recently decided to eliminate one of those monthly website subscription expenses.

So instead of paying someone else… I just built the site myself.

Now to be fair, it only took about a week because I had already cut my teeth building GradeYour401k.com, so I at least knew which buttons not to press this time.
The result?

A brand new Kenai Investments website… and one less monthly bill.

Naturally, the responsible thing to do with that newly freed-up capital was to reallocate it into my Smoke Oil position.

For those unfamiliar with this asset class, it's essentially a performance enhancement investment for internal combustion engines.

My wife says I’m just blowing money out the tailpipe. 😅

Which may technically be true…

…but if you’ve seen my flying videos, you know the utility value is off the charts.
Anyway, if you want to see what a week of coding, coffee, and late nights produced:

And if you want to see the first site that helped me learn how not to break the internet:

Just remember…

I’m a financial advisor, not a software engineer.

Asset allocation is still my core competency. 😄

Snapped a pic while pondering a new desk design to go with the monitor… 😱 but trying not to scare clients more than the stock market does. 😄

That said — the finished product came together nicely. Sometimes you’ve gotta appreciate the little wins in life. New monitor ✔️ Better workflow ✔️ 😎
