LET'S TALK HALF DOLLARS! 💰🥈
There have been several types of half dollars since the US became a country. Most people know about Kennedys. They are the most recent. Created in 1964 after the 1963 death of JFK. The 1964 version is 90% silver, 1965-1969 is 40% silver, and some of most of the other years are silver (stay tuned for more on this). Franklins and Walkers came before Kennedys. However, prior to all of these were some other half dollars.
The half dollar was originally minted in 1794 with the Flowing Hair. Then came the Draped Bust in 1796. In 1807, the head direction was changed and the Capped Bust was created. 1839 brought a more common Seated Liberty Half until 1892 when the Barber was created.
This is a total of eight different obverse on just the half dollar. See the comments for more detail. This week we have many of our halves on display. Come by Monday - Friday 9 am - 5 pm or Saturday 10 am - 2 pm.
We want to hear from you. Which one is your most favorite?
