Individual health insurance under the Affordable Care Act will have its Annual Open Enrollment period beginning 11/1/2021. In order to receive an effective date for 1/1/2022,you will need to enroll by 12/15/2021. However, the open enrollment period will last until 1/15/2022. For the past 9 years, I have been assisting individuals and families by helping to enroll directly with the insurance company or using the Marketplace to see if one might be eligible for an Advanced Premium Tax Credit/Subsidy to help lower one's monthly cost.

11/1/19 is the first day of the Affordable Care Act open enrollment, NOT 11/15/19. Thanks, and I look forward to helping you with your questions and selections.

Important Healthcare Update: 11/1/19-12/15/2019 is annual election period for individual under age 65 health insurance with those who have or interested in purchasing Affordable Care Act qualified insurance.

Bottom line: When you need benefits for healthcare a short term plan doesn’t include (e.g., preventive care, maternity and newborn care), have preexisting conditions or ongoing healthcare needs, qualify for subsidies, and can purchase coverage during an open or special enrollment period, then a major medical insurance plan may be right for you.

The “right” health insurance coverage varies from person to person and even from year to year. Now that you better understand the differences between short term and ACA health insurance plans, you can make an informed decision about what coverage makes sense for your healthcare needs and financial circumstances.

Thank you,
Jack Knight

How an ACA plan differs: While both short term and ACA plans help reduce what you pay out of pocket for healthcare, major medical insurance costs tend to be higher because they adhere to all Affordable Care Act requirements—the inclusion of all 10 essential health benefits, specified no-cost preventive care, guaranteed issue. According to the CMS Health Insurance Exchanges 2019 Open Enrollment Report, the average premium (before premium tax credit) was $612 in the 39 states that use the HealthCare.gov platform.

ACA plans are also subsidy-eligible. You must qualify based on income and you purchase ACA coverage through a state or federal health insurance exchange. ACA subsidies (i.e., premium tax credits and cost-sharing reductions) are not available for short term health insurance plans.

Just a note to let you know that even though the Annual Open Enrollment window to purchase Individual Affordable Care Act health insurance coverage was from 11/1/2018-12/15/2018, you might have had a life change event that could qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period.
There are also a few other temporary plans that might suit your situation. Please let me know if I can help.

01/25/2019

The ACA (Affordable Care Act) annual open enrollment period ended 12/15/18. However, for individuals who have or will have life changing events (loss of insurance due to employment changes and other events) will be able to purchase ACA insurance up to 60 days following that loss of coverage.
In addition, based on your household income, you might qualify for a Advanced Premium Tax Credit, which will help lower your monthly cost or premiums. Also a cost sharing reduction might be available to help lower your deductibles, co pays, and out of pocket cost.
I have been able to assist many individuals and families to see if they can qualify.
Please let me know if I can be of help.
Thanks and have a great day!!

"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent."

Turning 65 is a reality for many Americans. There is a the right Medicare Supplement plan that can save you money and is proving to be a great selection for many. Plus, with the household discount, you can save even more on those premiums.

Good News!! Often times in our lives things happen that can affect our current health insurance. Some of these are loss of a job, marriage, divorce, having a newborn, your current carrier canceling your policy, as well as other "life changing events." When this happens you have an option to enroll in a new individual health plan. Even though the open enrollment for ACA/Obama plans doesn't start till November, these events offer you the ability not to go without medical coverage, and you can enroll now..
