Good intentions don’t always lead to safe outcomes.
In this Safe Passage case study, a mission group traveling to West Africa shared details about their Kidnap & Ransom insurance coverage on a public website to reassure families. Shortly after arrival, suspicious inquiries and activity led local authorities to advise canceling the trip.
No one was harmed, but investigators DID later determine that publicly mentioning K&R coverage may have put the team at risk.
This case offers important lessons for leaders and organizations:
• Why confidentiality matters in security planning
• When K&R coverage is, and is not, appropriate
• How public communication can unintentionally create risk
These stories are shared to help teams plan wisely and travel responsibly.
